The Vulture area is located in the north-east region of the Basilicata (Lucania) andincludes the towns of Atella, Barile, Broom, Melfi, Rapolla, Ripacandida, Rionero in Vulture, Maschito, Venosa, Ruvo del Monte, and San Fele Rapolla . The name of this area comes from the massif of Mount Vulture (1326 m), an extinct volcano fromprehistoric times.
